Mister E. was my very first softball coach.

He had the patience to teach the game to fifteen little girls at one time without ever showing frustration or raising his voice. He believed in every one of us and celebrated every victory, no matter how small. Whether it was hitting the cutoff or simply remembering not to run with the bat, every milestone mattered.

And winning was great, but it was never the most important thing. Because of him, all of us developed something far more valuable than a winning record. What Mister E. instilled in us was a lifelong love of the game.

Mister E. coached softball for more than twenty years. But at heart, he was an inventor.

He was always dreaming up new ideas—simple, practical solutions that could make life a little easier. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, those ideas mostly helped the people around him. Today, they have the opportunity to help players, coaches, and families around the world.

At 87 years young, seeing his inventions finally reach the people they were designed to help has been one of the greatest joys of his life.
